Grand Forks County Fair

Fair boothINTREPID AGWEEK/HERALD REPORTER MIKKEL PATES SHOWS MIKE AND ANN CARROLL OF GRAND FORKS HOW TO SPIN THE WHEEL FOR PRIZES AT THE GRAND FORKS HERALD BOOTH AT THE GRAND FORKS COUNTY FAIR IN GRAND FORKS ON JULY 12.

One of the nice things about being a reporter is that I can get out and chat with the public from time to time. This past week I helped man the booth for the Grand Forks Herald at the Grand Forks County Fair in – where else? – Grand Forks. I found the fair an active place, with plenty of dog show activity, live, good quality country music and parents sharing fair food. I noticed the livestock building was well taken care of, but it’s sometimes dismaying to me to see how little livestock there really is in this area. Two pigs, was all I noticed. Maybe I wasn’t there at the right time. Anyway, the fair had some of its good ag flavor. One of my contacts was with Mike Carroll, assistant manager of Grand Forks Equipment, the local John Deere dealer, which had a display at the fair. Here, I school Carroll and his wife, Ann, on the finer points of winning lovely prizes such as a hockey book, a cook book, and a pizza cutter, on our fabulous spinner machine. Thanks to all who stopped to chat!
